Access the New Future of MICE

​​The 2021 Asian MICE Forum, scheduled for September 16, is a virtual meeting that will take place completely online this year! 

With Access the New Future of MICE as its theme, the 2021 AMF will feature international and domestic MICE experts exploring post-pandemic transformation and prospects of the MICE industry. In addition to successful techniques for increasing event participation, ways to encourage innovative thinking to create business opportunities will also be shared during the online event.

Dedicated to benefiting the Asian event industry and expanding its horizon, each year the Forum gathers global MICE leaders to share their successful experiences, drive new industry trends, enable diverse international exchanges, and generate business opportunities for participants. It is anticipated that the 2021 AMF will inspire the Asian MICE industry, and interested participants from other parts of the world, to plan and implement post-COVID-19 transformation measures, conveying another new wave of enthusiasm towards the global event industry.

Introduction

The annual Asian MICE Forum (AMF), now entering its 16th year, is an iconic event for Taiwan’s MICE industry and much of Asia. As an important exchange platform, it is a much anticipated event for the domestic MICE industry. The Forum invites world renowned speakers to share the latest MICE insights and to interact with Taiwanese MICE professionals.

This year’s first panel discussion will be moderated by Mr. Simon Wang, Executive Vice President of TAITRA, who is also Executive Director of MEET TAIWAN. Three panelists will join him virtually on stage to talk about the revival of the Asian MICE industry for the future post-COVID-19 world: Mrs. Nichapa Yoswee, Senior Vice President of the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB), Mr. Aloysius Arlando, President of the Singapore Association for Conventions & Exhibitions Organisers and Suppliers (SACEOS), and Ms. Iris Wong, Director of Exhibitions Market Development at the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC).

For the next panel discussion, three experienced MICE technology professionals will share their comments on the transformation of physical exhibition planning and how digital technology is reshaping the MICE industry: Ms. Jennifer Pai, CEO of ARPlanet, Ms. Rene Fang, CEO of iStaging, and Mr. Wang Shih-Chi, Founder & Director of KingOne Design. They will talk about ‘How Digital Technology is reshaping the MICE Industry’ with moderator, Mr. Chi Cheng-Jan, CEO of THLight.

Moreover, Mr. Denzil Rankine, Executive Chairman of AMR International, will share his point of view on exhibition trends and the outlook for 2022, and Mr. Jet Chou, Co-founder of IF Plus, will talk about his experiences building innovation experiments for multimedia, marketing communication and branding via digital art design.

Finally, Mr. Tim Groot, Founder & CEO of Grip, will share how he and his team built their award-winning innovative platform that creates business opportunities, boosts engagement during virtual events, and contributes to helping the exhibition industry recover from the current crisis.

The 2021 AMF is to be a gathering of global MICE leaders that drives new industry trends, enabling diversified international exchanges and business opportunities for participants.

Short Bio

Simon Wang was born in Taiwan, grew up in Taipei, and thrived at TAITRA. He has worked his way up through the rank and file. He started out as a project manager and then moved up to deputy executive. That was followed by a promotion to the executive director and he eventually rose all the way up to the executive vice president. During his tenure at TAITRA, he has studied at Northwestern University in Illinois, USA as well as accepted an assignment to work in Northern Europe. Simon has been exploring business opportunities for Taiwanese enterprises for over 35 years.

As a global trade promoter of high proactivity and great innovation, Simon has enthusiastically accepted the challenges to lead TAITRA teams to win bids for government projects. With his forward thinking in terms of the digital future and his ability to see the big picture, surely he will greatly contribute to elevating Taiwan’s foreign trade promotion.

Mrs. Nichapa Yoswee

Senior Vice President / Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB)

Short Bio

Nichapa Yoswee is a visionary professional with more than 30-year experiences in Meetings and Business Events Industry.  She is a top mind strategist and policy thought-leader. In her current capacity as Senior Vice President of Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB), she has developed and enforced the National Strategic Development Policy and Framework for MICE Industry of Thailand and the Sustainability Master Plan to drive Thailand to be Asia’s Preferred MICE Sustainable Destination.

An advocate in developing intellectual capitals, she established the first MICE Academy in Thailand and served as the nation’s first Course Board Chairlady. She was appointed by Ministry of Education to be a President of Vocational Manpower Development Sub Committee for MICE business.

She initiated Thailand MICE Venue Standard (TMVS) which was elevated and adopted as ASEAN standard (AMVS). She served as Board on Policy/Framework in UFI, the Federation of Global Association for Exhibition and Destination Marketing Association International. For regional MICE community, she proposed Asia Convention Alliance concept to restore and further develop convention industry in Asia. 

She is a well-known speaker in international forum on sustainable development and MICE related sectors as well as an active driver in country’s numerous public services/CSR campaigns.

Mr. Aloysius Arlando

President / Singapore Association for Conventions & Exhibitions Organisers and Suppliers (SACEOS)

Short Bio

Aloysius Arlando is Chief Executive (Venues) of Constellar Holdings, a merger of MICE players SingEx and Sphere Exhibits, and owned by Temasek Holdings and Singapore Press Holdings. Prior to the merger in 2021, Aloysius was Chief Executive Officer of SingEx.

Under his leadership, Singapore EXPO, Singapore’s largest purpose-built MICE venue was temporarily converted into a Community Care Facility in support of the nation’s COVID-19 containment efforts. He also oversees Constellar Holdings’ role as a key partner in Connect@Changi, a short-stay facility located within Singapore EXPO for the safe business exchange between international travellers and Singapore residents.

He is an active member of the Tourism Recovery Action Committee and the Emerging Stronger Taskforce, which are public-private sector efforts to restart Singapore’s tourism and business travel & MICE industries in a Covid-endemic world.

At SingEx, he has built up a portfolio of MICE-related ventures in Singapore and the Asia-Pacific region, as well as developed the organisation’s suite of hybrid event solutions and venue management services to new standards. Singapore EXPO & MAX Atria was awarded Best International Venue 2016 by UK’s Exhibition News (EN) and Best Business Event Venue 2018 by Singapore Tourism Board. The exhibitions arm of SingEx was awarded Best Trade Conference Organiser and Best Exhibition Organiser for the world’s largest fintech festival, Singapore FinTech Festival 2018 and 2019 and Industrial Transformation Asia-Pacific – A Hannover Messe tradeshow in 2018 respectively.

Prior to SingEx, Aloysius spent 18 years in various leadership positions in Singapore’s public sector, principally at the Singapore Tourism Board and Ministry of Trade & Industry where he oversaw the development plans for Singapore’s business travel and MICE industries. He was a key member of a multi-agency committee responsible for the MICE development aspects of Singapore’s Integrated Resorts projects and the organizing committee for the inaugural Singapore Grand Prix, the world’s first night race. He also served in the Ministry of Manpower where he spearheaded lifelong learning and workforce development efforts.

In 2004, Aloysius received a Public Administration Award in recognition of his achievements. Aloysius capped off his stint in the public sector as the Assistant Chief Executive of Business Travel and MICE in STB, where under his watch, Singapore emerged as the Top International Meetings City and Asia’s Top Country and City for Meetings by the Union of International Associations for the first time. He was also concurrently serving as the Executive Director of the organizing committee for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Singapore 2009 high-level meetings.

Aloysius is currently the President of SACEOS (Singapore Association of Convention and Exhibition Organisers and Suppliers). He was President of the International Association of Convention Centres (AIPC) 2017 to 2021, the association’s first Asian president and Vice-Chairman of the Asia-Pacific Chapter of The Global Association of the Exhibition Industry (UFI) in 2013-2014. He also sits on the Industry Advisory Committees of the Singapore Institute of Technology and Temasek Polytechnic for their hospitality and events business course programmes.

Ms. Iris Wong

Director, Exhibitions Market Development, Hong Kong Trade Development Council

Short Bio

Ms. Iris Wong serves as the Exhibitions Market Development Director of Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), a statutory organization responsible for promoting international trade and business for Hong Kong’s manufacturing and service sectors.

Ms. Wong is currently responsible for the Exhibitions Department of HKTDC. HKTDC holds more than 30 international trade shows annually and among them 11 are the biggest of their kind in Asia, while 5 have become the world’s largest exhibitions.

Ms. Wong joined HKTDC in 1995 and has served various positions in Hong Kong and also overseas. From 1998 to 2000 she was stationed at Osaka and Tokyo offices responsible for HKTDC’s campaigns around Japan, committed to enhancing business, trade and investment collaborations between Hong Kong and Japan. Other departments Ms. Wong had ever worked at included the Service Promotion Department and the External Relations Department, where she took key positions and devoted herself to promoting Hong Kong’s financial service industry and marketing Hong Kong’s advantages overseas. She also has extensive experiences in coordinating large-scale conferences and events.

Ms. Wong graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong with an honours degree in Business Administration. She speaks English, Mandarin and Japanese fluently

Mr. Denzil Rankine

Denzil Rankine is the Executive Chairman of AMR International, a strategy consulting firm which he founded in 1991. His experience spans 35 years of advising businesses and investors on strategic development and acquisition throughout the world. This work has taken him to 35 countries.

After his early career that focussed on industrial products and the US, Denzil has increasingly advised businesses on growth strategy in technology, business media, information and specifically events. As author of five books on M&A, Denzil has been involved in numerous transactions in events, including the most significant ones.

At AMR, Denzil has driven innovation through concepts including Organiser of the future and Exhibitions 2.0. He is a regular speaker at industry conferences and is also on select advisory boards in the events industry.
